Casa del Panadero

Like characters in a Victor Hugo novel, our lives often circle back to re-encounter¬† people and places we thought we left behind. Casa Panadero was our first home in Yucatan. Here, we learned Spanish from our neighbors. We encountered our first leaf cutter ants in the garden. In the bedroom, we cowered beneath Hurricane Isidor as it rolled overhead like a hundred freight trains running on jet fuel. So many memories... Then years later, like the Maitlands returning home in Beetle Juice, surprised by the new owner’s remodeling, we’re back “home”, ghosts wandering through somebody else’s dream, taking photos and video for their vacation rental website. The difference between us and the Maitlands is that the new owners have better taste than we did.
